- The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 529 film industry professionals to join the Oscars' voting ranks.
- Among the stars asked to join are Jacob Elordi, Jenna Ortega, and Teyana Taylor.
- If all 529 accept, the group's numbers will stand at 11,319 total (including emeritus members), with 10,338 of those as active voters.
Hollywood's biggest night is about to get significantly bigger, as the Academy has invited 529 film industry professionals to join the Oscars' voting ranks.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Wednesday the hundreds of creatives and executives potentially joining the esteemed organization, with this year's invited class comprising 95 Oscar past nominees, 21 winners, and three Scientific and Technical Award recipients.
Among the buzziest invitees are *Wednesday* star Jenna Ortega; *Walking Dead* actor Jon Bernthal; Marvel star Simu Liu; *Challengers* performer Josh O'Connor; *Saturday Night Live* alum Jenny Slate; *Weapons* director Zach Cregger; Grammy winner Sara Bareilles; Emmy-winning *Ozark* actress Julia Garner; iconic British comedian Suzy Eddie Izzard; the Safdie brothers; and, fresh off their 2026 Oscar nominations, Jacob Elordi and Teyana Taylor.**

According to a news release, if all members invited across 19 branches accept their invitations, the group's total number of members (including those with emeritus status) will stand at 11,319 (or 10,338, counting only active voting members).
Additionally, with the new 2026 class, the Academy would be 36 percent female, 25 percent from underrepresented communities, and 22 percent from international territories.
"We are delighted to invite this remarkable group of film artists and professionals from around the world to join the Academy," said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy president Lynette Howell Taylor in a statement. "Through their commitment to filmmaking, this year's exceptionally talented class has made significant contributions to our global movie industry."

The Academy also recently unveiled new rules heading into the 2026-27 awards season race, including new standards aimed at addressing the rise of artificial intelligence in the film industry.
The acting branch is now permitted to nominate "only roles credited in the film's legal billing and demonstrably performed by humans with their consent," while the writing branch's standards require that "screenplays must be human-authored to be eligible" for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Screenplay.

The Academy has also announced its special honorees for the upcoming season, with several legendary professionals receiving recognition at the upcoming Governors Awards.
After eight career nominations, Glenn Close will finally get her Oscar via an Honorary Award statuette at the ceremony.

Other special recipients include director Ridley Scott, producers Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler, and Floyd Norman, Disney's first Black animator.
