Demi Lovato headlined at Madison Square Garden for the first time.
She has recently reunited with some of her former Disney-era co-stars, including Selena Gomez.
The singer reflected on why it was such an important reconnection.
On Friday, Demi Lovato spoke with Billboard following her first time headlining at New York’s Madison Square Garden. During the interview, the star talked about her time working with the Disney Channel and the other stars who came of age at the same time there. Lovato recently saw Selena Gomez backstage at her show in Orlando. The pair had begun working together again on Gomez’s Wizards of Waverly Place reboot.
“I think the age that we’re at is really loving nostalgia right now,” Lovato told Billboard. “For all the people who are in their 30s and have lived through the Disney era with me, Selena, the Jonas Brothers and Miley [Cyrus], they’re craving it, and it’s fun to go back and relive those moments.”
After being asked if the fandom’s nostalgia has been encouraging these types of reunions, she replied, “Oh, definitely. Yeah, I think that’s why it’s all coming together again in this day and age.”

After they met again in Orlando, Gomez shared a series of photos of Lovato in her Instagram Stories, writing, “I am in tears @ddlovato—this was hands down one of the best shows. Oh and the VOCALS? Psh blown away.”
Lovato reposted the story, writing over it, “[welled-eyes emoji] thank you so much for coming !!! loved seeing you [white heart emoji].”
This spring, Lovato has had other special guests at her shows that appeal to fans’ nostalgia. At MSG, she welcomed special guest JoJo and her husband Jutes, marking their first time performing live together.
And during her opening show in Orlando, Lovato welcomed Joe Jonas. The former couple sang their Camp Rock hit “This Is Me” in anticipation of the upcoming Camp Rock 3. Disney fans have a lot to look forward to.
