9-1-1features love stories as dramatic as the emergencies its characters face around Los Angeles, but in real life, the cast’s off-screen romances are anything but.
On the ABC procedural, which returns for season 10 on Oct. 15, fans rooted for Howie “Chimney” Han (Kenneth Choi) and Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) when they finally became husband and wife during season 7. Hewitt has even had the chance to star on the series with her real-life husband, actor Brian Hallisay, as he’s been a frequent 9-1-1 guest star.
Angela Bassett, who plays Athena, has also been in a long-time marriage with fellow actor Courtney B. Vance.
Here’s everything to know about the real-life partners of the 9-1-1 cast.

Bassett has portrayed LAPD Detective Athena Grant since 9-1-1 debuted on Jan. 3, 2018.She and her husband Vance met at the Yale School of Drama in the 1980s, though Vance was dating someone else.
They reconnected in 1994, as Bassett told Oprah Winfrey during a 2007 interview, and dated for a few years before tying the knot in October 1997.
The couple acted onstage together in a 2005 production of His Girl Friday and a year later welcomed twins Bronwyn Golden and Slater Josiah.
Vance later landed a recurring role as Bassett’s husband on the final season ofER, which aired from 2008 to 2009. Around that time, the couple wrote a joint memoir titled Friends: A Love Story. In 2020, they launched their own multimedia company, Bassett Vance Productions.
Vance later reflected on him and Bassett becoming empty nesters after dropping the twins off at college.
“When we came home from dropping them off, Angela grabbed my hand. I said, ‘Where we going, baby?’ She said, ‘Come on.’ ” So we went into their bedrooms, and we just stood there,” he said during an appearance on The Talk in October 2024. “Then she said, ‘Ok, I’m good.’ And it is good!”

Hewitt, who portrays emergency dispatcher Maddie, and Hallisay are another couple who have gone the distance. The pair first met on the unaired 2011 TV series Love Bites and began dating a year later when they reconnected on the set of Hewitt’s show The Client List.
Hewitt and Hallisay wed a few days before their oldest child, daughter Autumn, was born in November 2013. They later welcomed son Atticus in June 2015, followed by son Aidan in September 2021.
On being married for 11 years, Hewitt jokingly told PEOPLE in December 2024, “That’s like 190 years in Hollywood. I’m really proud of the family we’ve made together. I’m proud of us.”
The pair have worked together on several occasions over the years. Hallisay played Hewitt’s estranged husband on The Client List, her ex-husband on 9-1-1 and her love interest in Lifetime’s 2024 Christmas movie TheHoliday Junkie.
In December 2024, Hewitt told Entertainment Tonight that she loves that her kids will “forever” be able to watch their parents fall in love at Christmas in a movie.
The I Know What You Did Last Summer star paid tribute to her husband for his birthday in October 2025, captioning a throwback photo on Instagram of Hallisay in part: “3 incredible babies, almost 12 years married now and I still love witnessing you everyday. This year has been a crazy one but we have had you as our rock. I love you deeply. Always and forever.”

Kenneth Choi

While Choi is single in real life, he couldn’t be happier for his character — paramedic and firefighter Chimney — finding love with Maddie on 9-1-1.
“Love will find a way, and the love that Maddie and Chimney have for one another, I think, is unstoppable and invincible,” Choi told Screen Rant in May 2024. “They belong together.”

Over the years, Choi and Hewitt have become close friends off-screen, and he has referred to the actress as his “tv wifey/baby mama” on Instagram.

Aisha Hinds and Nigel Walker

Aisha Hinds, who plays firefighter and paramedic Henrietta “Hen” Wilson, and her husband Nigel Walker first met as teenagers. They reunited in 2019 and married in May 2022.
For the couple’s first wedding anniversary, Walker penned a “love note” to Hinds on Instagram.
“There’s sooooo much strength in being loved by the right person,” he wrote. “It channels a positive energy to your mind, body and soul. Your happiness transforms to joy. The unfathomable becomes a reality. And there’s an unspeakable peace that resides in your heart.”
Hinds shared similar sentiments in honor of Walker’s 50th birthday in September 2025.
“One of my best friends said to me one day ‘.. the only time you didn’t love Sol was the sixteen years before you met him.’ I laughed, then got lost in the truth of that sentiment,” she wrote in part on Instagram. (Walker’s middle name is Solomon.) “I really have journeyed through the myriad faces and facets of love with @silkyvalente and find myself feeling so blessed with every new layer of learning, living, listening, laughing, lusting, and more that we explore. Life is not promised…and neither is love. Sol is a daily reminder for me of the richness of having both.”

Ryan Guzman

Ryan Guzman joined season 2 of 9-1-1. Like his character, firefighter and widower Eddie Diaz, Guzman is also a single father in real life.
The actor was previously engaged to Brazilian actress Chrysti Ane, and he referenced their split during a March 2025 interview on the Zach Sang Show. The exes share two children: daughter Genevieve Valentina and son Mateo.

Oliver Stark

Though Oliver Stark’s character, Evan “Buck” Buckley — a firefighter and Maddie’s younger brother — began exploring his sexuality and forming romantic connections during season 9, he mainly keeps his personal life under wraps off-screen.
The actor was last linked to actress Hannah Gottesman, whom he spoke to PEOPLE about in March 2018, but it’s unclear if the couple are still together.

Peter Krause

Unlike his character, LAFD Captain Bobby Nash, who was happily married before his season 8 death, Peter Krause is currently single.
The actor was last linked to actress Lauren Graham, who played his sister on the hit series Parenthoodfor six seasons. The pair dated for almost 12 years before splitting in 2021.
Krause hasn’t publicly addressed his breakup with Graham or shared his plans for dating in the future.
The Gilmore Girls star, however, told PEOPLE in November 2022 why their relationship ended.
“We had such a good time together that I didn’t maybe ask some fundamental questions about ‘What are your values and what do you envision?’ and those more grown-up things,” she said. “And then they just caught up with us.”
Graham helped raise Krause’s son Roman, whom the actor welcomed in November 2001 with his ex, Christine King.
