Kai Trump has confirmed she has undergone wrist surgery as after sustaining the injury during her first tournament as a college athlete.

Trump, the granddaughter of president Donald Trump, is a freshman at the University of Miami. Her early showings as a newbie didn’t go as planned when she carded a 14-over 86 in the opening round of the Golfweek Put Me In Coach Invitational.

She eventually bounced back with an eight-over 80 in the second round, but has now announced that she had surgery on her wrist after the first few events.

"I recently underwent surgery to repair a wrist injury I sustained during my first tournament of the season,” wrote Kai Trump on social media. It comes after Vanessa Trump hit Tiger Woods with a deal-breaker in a foul-mouthed ultimatum.

“While I had hoped to avoid surgery, after talks with my family, coaches, and athletic training staff I know I made the best decision for my long-term health and my future in the game I love. It’s certainly not how I envisioned the next few months, but sometimes the journey takes an unexpected turn, and I’m choosing to embrace this one with patience, and a whole lot of determination."

The tournament marks just the second collegiate appearance for Kai — who feared her mom Vanessa would have a "mental breakdown" over her college move — after she made her first appearance last month at the Golfweek Fall Classic in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, where she tied for 102nd in a 120-player field.

“Recovery will take time, but I’m incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by amazing people who continue to lift me up, encourage me, and remind me that every challenge is an opportunity to grow. Having the right people by your side makes all the difference, and I couldn’t be more grateful," she continued on social media.

“A special thank you to Dr. Carlson and the incredible team at HSS in New York for taking such great care of me, and to my teammates, coaches, family, and everyone who has supported me along the way.

“For now, it’s all about healing, and trusting the process. I can’t wait to be back with my team, doing what I love. I’ll be back before you know it, stronger and more grateful than ever!"

Trump — who recently broke down over college struggles and said she hadn't eaten in days — disclosed that she aggravated her wrist injury during her first competitive rounds as a collegiate athlete. "My first college tournament, I hit the ground next to the cart path," Trump explained in a social media post.

"Let's just say there must have been some cart path underneath that ground because it was very hard." She went on to say that on the tenth hole, "I hit my driver, and I felt like I tore it again."

Trump already underwent surgery on her wrist earlier this year to repair damage to the tissues of her ECU tendon and fibrocartilage complex.

It comes after Woods' four-word response to Vanessa Trump that left her furious.
