King Charles and Queen Camilla have arrived in America.
The royal couple's state visit to the United States kicked off on Monday, April 27, as the royal pair arrived by plane at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. They were greeted at the air base by U.S. Chief of Protocol Monica Crowley and Sir Christian Turner, British Ambassador to the U.S.
Speaking at a briefing before the trip began, Turner said that American officials were hugely enthusiastic about the state visit, which is the first of President Donald Trump's term.
"For us, the real purpose of the visit is its ability to recognize and celebrate, that our partnership ranges well beyond the government of the day. It's about the cultural, historical, economic, people to people links that really bind our two countries together," the ambassador said about the special relationship between the U.S. and U.K.
From here, the royals will travel to the White House in Washington, D.C., where the American president and first lady Melania Trump will welcome them informally with a private tea. The D.C. visit, which is tied to the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence from the United Kingdom, will continue with a garden party and a ceremonial military review.

During the visit, the King will follow in his mother's footsteps, becoming just the second-ever British monarch to deliver an address to a joint meeting of Congress. The late Queen Elizabeth delivered a speech at the Capitol in 1991, the third of four official state visits to the U.S. she made over the course of her reign.
King Charles, 77, and Queen Camilla, 78, will also be feted by a state dinner at the White House.
Elsewhere on the schedule, the royals will travel to New York City for a series of engagements meant to reflect the modern relationship between the U.S. and the U.K.

To recognize the upcoming 25th anniversary of 9/11, they will visit the Freedom Tower at One World Trade Center, which stands at the site of the Twin Towers, which were destroyed in the terrorist attack on Sept. 11, 2001. They will pay tribute to the victims and meet with first responders and families.
Then, the King and Queen will split up for some more personal ventures. King Charles will visit a grassroots community organization that works to mentor young people affected by food insecurity through a sustainable after-school urban farming initiative.

Queen Camilla will attend an event celebrating the U.S. and U.K.'s shared love of literature and her charity, The Queen’s Reading Room. The event will bring together high-profile writers and readers for a reception celebrating all literature and paying special tribute to A.A. Milne’s children’s stories featuring Winnie the Pooh, who marks his 100th birthday this year.
The King and Queen will conclude their New York visit at a reception celebrating the work of The King’s Trust in shaping the lives of young people across America, as well as showcasing the cultural links between the U.S. and the U.K.

From there, the King and Queen will travel south to Virginia to meet local residents and community organisations, and observe performances by Appalachian cultural groups. They will also attend a “block party” in a national park to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.

Then, the King will separately travel to Bermuda, where he will be welcomed with a Guard of Honour ceremony. During his time in the British island terrority, he will meet with residents and learn about local habitats and biodiversity efforts.
He will also meet with Commonwealth Games athletes ahead of the 2026 Games this year, formally open the new Great Bay Coast Guard Station and hear from representatives from the U.K. Space Agency about plans to install a new telescope site in Bermuda as part of global efforts to track space debris, supporting international space sustainability.
