Donald Trump may be the most famous member of his family, but the US President is one of five siblings who all carved out very different lives and careers.
Among them is a respected federal judge, while another followed the family business and one chose a much quieter life away from the political spotlight. Donald and his siblings were born to German-American property developer Fred Trump and Scottish-born Mary Anne MacLeod Trump.
Their father's career brought the family considerable wealth, while their mother's journey from the Isle of Lewis to the US saw her arrive in New York as an 18-year-old in search of a new life.

The Trump children grew up in New York alongside their parents and while Donald became a property tycoon before entering politics, his brothers and sisters included a pilot, a banker and a federal judge.

Maryanne Trump Barry

The eldest Trump sibling, Maryanne Trump Barry, was born in 1937 and went on to have a highly successful legal career. She was appointed as a federal district judge by President Ronald Reagan in 1983 and later nominated to the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit by President Bill Clinton in 1999, eventually taking senior status in 2011.
Maryanne stepped back from her judicial role in 2017 and was reportedly close to her presidential brother despite political differences. Donald previously acknowledged their differing opinions, saying the pair “have different views a little bit”. Maryanne was married twice, had one child from her first marriage and died in 2023.
Fred Trump Jr.

Frederick Trump Jr., born in 1938, carried a family name that had already been passed down through the generations. He initially worked alongside his father in the family property business but eventually decided to leave the industry and pursue a career as a pilot.
Fred married and had two children, but he struggled with alcohol addiction for much of his adult life. He died in 1981 aged just 42, with his death having a profound impact on his younger brother Donald, who has spoken publicly about his sibling's battle with addiction.
Elizabeth Trump Grau

Elizabeth Trump Grau was born in 1942 and is the third of the five Trump children. Unlike her famous brother, she has largely stayed away from the glare of politics and the media, meaning considerably less is known about her private life.
Elizabeth worked as a banker during her career and married film producer James Grau in 1989. The couple remained together until his death in 2023, and Elizabeth is now 84 and Donald's only living sibling.
Robert Trump

Robert Trump was the youngest of the five siblings, born in 1948, just two years after Donald. He followed his older brother into the family business but generally avoided the intense public spotlight that surrounded Donald as his political profile grew.
Robert married Blaine Trump in 1984, with the couple separating in the mid-2000s before divorcing in 2009. He later married his longtime partner Anne Marie Pallan in early 2020, but died just months later in August at the age of 72.
