While chatting with PEOPLE ahead of his upcoming Soundtrack to Life tour, which kicks off in July, the country star and dad of five, 36, clarified a common misconception and shared the true inspiration behind his son Brave Elijah's name. The singer and his wife, Lauren Akins, welcomed their baby boy in February.

"I've actually seen a lot of articles on the internet that say, 'Thomas Rhett names his son after a bottle of wine.' That makes me so mad because I didn't name him after a wine. It was just like the wine was called Mt. Brave," he says. "When I saw the name Brave on that bottle, it just hit me, like, 'Wow, I've never thought about the name Brave for a kid.' Then you start going through all the things that just being brave means."

"My wife and I just started throwing that name around, and it really started to stick," he adds, emphasizing that the name has a deeper meaning. "Once we started to say, 'Oh, little Brave, Brave boy, Brave man,' it just started to feel like such a strong name."

In addition to their baby boy, Thomas Rhett and Akins, whom he married in 2012, are proud parents to daughters Willa Gray, 10, Ada James, 8, Lennon Love, 6, and Lillie Carolina, 4.

Elsewhere in the interview, the country singer shares with PEOPLE how his life has changed after becoming a boy dad, giving an update on his son.

"It is starting to feel different now," he says. "I think because he's about to be 3 months old, and he's starting to look like me. He's finally making facial expressions, so you can talk to him and he'll laugh. He's starting to figure out what he does and does not like, how he wants to be held, and how he doesn't want to be held and what kind of bottle we're feeding. He's got opinions now."

"His little personality is really starting to show through. It wasn't really until about a week ago that it really hit me, and it's like, dang, I have a boy now," he continues.

Thomas Rhett says that becoming a boy dad has him "super juiced up" about the future.

"So many of my friends have boys, and it's just a different thing. My girls are so sweet, and most little boys I know are just absolutely on a rampage 24 hours a day," he explains. "But, I look forward to it, man. I feel so blessed."

He adds, "I really can't believe we have five kids, but here we are."

Back in February, the singer announced that he and his wife welcomed their fifth child and first boy together, sharing the news in a sweet Instagram post. The post included pictures of Akins as she prepared to give birth, with Thomas Rhett comforting her by helping her onto the hospital bed in one photo, and touching her forehead in another. Once Brave arrived, Thomas Rhett is seen kissing his wife's forehead as she holds their latest family addition.

"Welcome to the world Brave 🩵💚🩵," the couple wrote alongside a set of images that captured their newborn's first moments, including a photo of baby Brave sleeping as he snuggled a stuffed animal."Oh. my. goodness. Our hearts are just in a big ole puddle with this precious baby BOY 🩵 🦆🩵⚾️🩵🦌🩵🐟🩵," the proud parents continued. "Brave Elijah Akins was born last week at almost 10 pounds and almost 2 weeks early-thank you Jesus this big boy didn't wait another 2 weeks to be born 😍."

In the caption of their announcement post, Akins praised her husband for being her "biggest champion in labor & delivery."

"He helped deliver him (😭), was the first one to see and tearfully, mixed with a bit of shock announce to us all in the room 'It's a BOY'😭🩵🥰."

She ended with a note of gratitude, writing, "We are so grateful God chose us to have YOU cutie pie🥰🥰 Your four sisters are smitten and we are completely over the moon in love with you big Brave boy 🩵🌙🩵."
