A police sergeant who appeared on a TV documentary is accused of having sex with another officer while on duty and in public places.

Cleveland Police’s website lists a disciplinary hearing for Ben Sutcliffe, a former temporary police sergeant who featured on the Channel 5 television programme Police Interceptors.

On the show’s website, he was listed as having 11 years’ service with the force and was an advanced driver trained in tactical pursuit, an armed response officer, a medic, a public order instructor and a family liaison officer.

It is alleged that he engaged in a personal relationship with a female colleague but denied it when challenged a number of times.

The ex-officer is accused of sending and receiving a large number of sexually explicit texts and images to the officer while on duty.

It also claimed that he “engaged in sexual activity with the officer in public places, knowing and intending that there be a risk of being caught”.

Mr Sutcliffe is also alleged to have shared restricted information with the female officer without operational policing purpose.

He was also accused of failing to challenge improper conduct by the woman when she told him she would lie to the Professional Standards Department and deny the relationship.

Cleveland Police said the alleged breaches of Standards of Professional Behaviour related to discreditable conduct; authority, respect and courtesy; honesty and integrity; orders and instructions; confidentiality; and challenging improper conduct.

If proven, the allegations would constitute gross misconduct, the force said.

His misconduct hearing will take place on Wednesday next week in Stockton, Teesside.
