Jenna Ortega is opening up about her childhood acting experience. The Wednesday star revealed a surprising mistake from back then. She sometimes went all day without food. She also avoided asking anyone for water as she only wanted to stay unnoticed.

Jenna Ortega reveals her rookie mistake as a child actor

Jenna Ortega discussed her early acting career in a new interview with Esquire. When asked about a rookie mistake from her first set, Ortega said she struggled to think of one. She explained that she was fortunate as a child because she was extremely grateful and excited to be working.

She explained, “I really had it going for me as a child because I can’t think of one mistake I made. Is that a terrible thing to say? I feel like I make mistakes now all the time, but as a child, I was so grateful and so excited to be there that my game face was on.”

That mindset made Ortega avoid asking for things. She said, “I wasn’t asking for a sip of water. I would go all day without eating, drinking, whatever.” Ortega explained why she behaved that way then. She wanted badly to avoid bothering anyone.

She said, “I wanted so badly to not be in the way of anybody.” Looking back, Ortega believes that was her mistake. She admitted, “Maybe that was my mistake.” She then explained what she should’ve done instead. “Not actually looking after myself,” she said.

Ortega’s mindset came from wanting to prove herself. She wanted to make every opportunity count too. Ortega has since become a major young star. Her fame grew gradually throughout her early career.

Then Wednesday made her famous almost overnight. She has worked mostly in darker projects since. Her credits include Scream, X, and Beetlejuice. However, Ortega wants to try different roles and move away from darker characters.

She will star in The Great Beyond, directed by J.J. Abrams. Wednesday Season 3 is expected in 2027, while Klara and the Sun releases on October 23, 2026. The Great Beyond arrives on October 1, 2027.
